Noirvember 2022 continues with a look at Ivan Passser’s Cutter's Way (1981). Originally released as Cutter and Bone, the film is an adaptation of Newton Thornburg’s 1976 book and stars John Heard as Cutter and Jeff Bridges as Bone. They’re a pair of troubled souls who engage themselves in a mystery that may or may not be real.

Mike Watt and Maitland McDonagh join Mike to discuss this fascinating neo-noir. They're joined by screenwriter Jeffrey Alan Fiskin and actors Arthur Rosenberg, Ann Dusenberry, and Lisa Eichhorn.

Episode 396: Fat City (1972)

Based on a book by and adapted by Leonard Gardner, Fat City (1972) was directed by John Huston and stars Stacy Keach as Tully, an over the hill fighter who says he wants to pick himself up and revive his career after he meets Ernie (Jeff Bridges), a kid who seems to have a lot of promise in the boxing world. We see their stories parallel and contrast one another as we watch Fat City unfold.

Jedidiah Ayres and Heather Drain join Mike to discuss this wonderfully downbeat film.

Episode 362: Winter Kills (1979)

Based on the 1974 novel by Richard Condon, William Richert's Winter Kills (1979) tells the tale of Nick Kegan (Jeff Bridges), half brother of President Tim Kegan who was assassinated in Philadelphia in February 1960. When he receives a deathbed confession from the man who allegedly shot President Kegan, Nick goes down the rabbit-hole, trying sort out the truth from the lies and obfuscations of everyone around him, including his father, Pa Kegan (John Huston).

William Richert discusses the making of the film -- a story which rivals the on-screen antics. Matthew Socey and Jeff Meyers join Mike to talk about comic conspiracy films.
