Samm Deighan and Axel Kohagen join Mike to kick off a month of science fiction fun with the one film that is the least sci-fi of the bunch, The Unknown Man of Shandigor. Released in 1967 the film is a rare feature film from Swiss filmmaker Jean-Louis Roy.
The film is something of a spy movie which stars the singular Daniel Emilfork as Professor Herbert von Krantz, a scientist who has crafted a device called the Annulator which can reverse a nuclear explosion. He, his assistant Yvan, and daughter Sylvain are the targets of several spy rings -- The Russians, The Americans, The French maybe, and the Man with the Platinum Ring all want The Annulator or to destroy it.

On this special Czechtember episode we’re looking at Oldrich Lipsky’s 1981 film The Mysterious Castle in the Carpathians. Based on the novel by Jules Verne from 1892, the film tells the story of Count Teleke of Toloko (Michal Docolomanský), a blowhard opera singer who, along with his manservant, stop by the village of where he learns about the nearby Devil’s Castle which is said to be haunted.
Jonathan Owen and Emily Barney join Mike to discuss this off-beat adaptation (and the other three adaptations of the same story around the same time. Tereza Brdeckova talks about her and her father's work while Irena Kovarova shares her work representing Czech cinema.

On this special episode we’re looking at the 1974 film from Sal Watts, Solomon King. The film tells the tale of the titular Solomon King who is portrayed by writer and co-director Watts himself. He’s a former CIA operator who becomes embroiled in international intrigue involving the Middle East. He’s trying to protect the Princess Oneewa (Claudia Russo) from her cousin, Hassan (Richard Scarso), who has assassins in the US and a mole in the CIA. Things look bleak for Solomon King but he’s got Manny and Uncle John on his side.
