We kick off Musical Month with a look at Alan Parker's Evita (1996). Based on the stage musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, it's the story of Eva Duarte, a girl (Madonna) from the backwaters of Argentina who makes her way to Buenas Aires, climbing the social ladder until she ends up with Colonel Juan Peron (Jonathan Pryce) who soon becomes the country's fascist dictator.

Todd in the Shadows and Paul Mow join Mike to discuss the stage and screen versions while Sir Tim Rice discusses the versions of Evita that we almost saw in movie theaters.

Episode 491: The Frighteners (1996)

We conclude #Shocktober2020 with a look at Peter Jackson's The Frighteners (1996). Made between Heavenly Creatures and The Lord of the Rings series, the film was a signal to Hollywood that Peter Jackson could play by the rules. It’s the story of Frank Bannister (Michael J. Fox), a man with a gift that he can commune with the dead. He uses this to bilk the people of Fairwater out of money by haunting houses via his dead friends. Unfortunately for Frank and the rest of Fairwater there’s a serial killer who plagues the city in hopes of scoring a record number of kills.

Chris Stachiw and Jeff Meyers discuss the film with Mike while Production Designer Grant Major and co-star Jeffrey Combs talk about the making of the movie.

Bro, on this special episode of The Projection Booth we're looking at the 2001 movie from R. D. Robb, Don's Plum. The film remains officially unreleased in the U.S. while available legally in other parts of the world. It stars a group of young actors known as "The Pussy Posse" including Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio. It's about a group of guys who bring their dates to the titular diner where they talk, boast, and engage in bathroom-bound monologues.

Mike Sullivan (Shock Cinema, Cinema Sewer) and Andrew Rausch (My Best Friend's Birthday: The Making of a Tarantino Film) join Mike to boast, debase women, and talk about the history of the film. Producer Dale Wheatley provides insights from behind-the-scenes.
