In this special episode of The Projection Booth, co-hosts Chris Stachiw of The Kulturecast and Father Malone of Midnight Viewing join forces to dissect Alien: Romulus2024, the latest installment in the iconic Alien franchise. Directed by visionary talent Fede Alvarez, this film attempts to return to the franchise’s horror roots while pandering to fans.
Our hosts delve into the Alien: Isolation inspiration, the ghoulish visual effects, and the story of Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and her robot pal Andy (David Jonsson) who live in a mining colony before they escape with three dead meat friends to derelict space station Romulus-Remus where hundreds of face-huggers are kept in cold storage. The film eventually introduces a very familiar(ish) face and some black goo from Prometheus/Alien: Covenant gets introduced thanks to producer Ridley Scott.
Sci-Fi July continues with a look at Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049 (2017). It’s the story of K (Ryan Gosling). He’s a replicant experiencing memories where he thinks he’s the chosen one, a product of a replicant and human pairing. Of course, that Replicant is Rachel (Sean Young) and the human is Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford) which, I guess settles the whole thing about Deckard being a human or replicant... or does it?
Rob St. Mary and Chris Stachiw join Mike to discuss this ponderous sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 original.
Special Guest: Steven Frye Guest Co-Hosts: John Walker, James Lawrence
John Walker and James Lawrence join Mike to look at the 2013 film from Ridley Scott, The Counselor. Written by Cormac McCarthy, the film is a sprawling sun-baked neo-noir wherein our titular Counselor (Michael Fassbender) gets involved in the drug trade only to set off a spiral of tragic events. Boasting a stunning cast of celebrities, the film was not well received upon its theatrical release.
Special Guests: Gary Dourdan, Leland Orser, Pitof Guest Co-Hosts: El Goro, Mike Thompson
On this special episode of The Projection Booth, we're looking at Alien: Resurrection, it's the next chapter (some might say last chapter) of the Alien Saga started by Ridley Scott back in 1979. Released in 1997, we re-join Ellen Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) five years after Alien 3 but 200 years after the events portrayed in David Fincher's film.
El Goro and Mike Thompson join Mike (White) to discuss the strange hybrid of Joss Whedon's American script and Jean-Pierre Jeunet's French sensibilities.
