Released in 1970, Bernardo Bertolucci's The Conformist is set primarily in 1938 Europe. We follow the life of Marcello Clerici (Jean-Louis Trintingant), the titular conformist, a man who tries desperately to fit in and follow the party line.
Spaghetti Western month continues with a look at Sergio Corbucci's The Great Silence (1968) which stars Jean-Louis Trintingant as the titular Silence, a mute gunfighter who shoots the thumbs off his enemies. He's pitted against the appropriately named Loco (Klaus Kinski) in a snow-bound Utah town in one of the most nihilistic films you may enjoy.

Based on a book by Vasilis Vasilikos, Costa-Gavras’s Z (1969) stars Yves Montand as a political activist who is killed after a rally. The film also stars Jean-Louis Trintignant as the investigator of the incident who manages to uncover a vast conspiracy.
