Ian Brownell and Tim Luz join Mike to kick off spooktacular coverage with Erie C. Kenton’s 1932 adaptation of H. G. Wells’s 1896 book, The Island of Doctor Moreau. Here it’s called Island of Lost Souls and stars Charles Laughton as Moreau, a mad scientist who works to bend the will of nature to suit his needs. He works to create a race of human/animal hybrids on his mysterious island which is disturbed by Edward Parker (Richard Arlen) and Ruth Thomas (Leila Hyams).
We also discuss the 1977 and notorious 1996 versions of the film along with some other films inspired by Wells's work.

The boys from From the Files of Police Squad (in Color), our limited series about Police Squad! and The Naked Gun films are back and talking about something we didn't discuss there...
Released in 1984, Zucker Abrahams Zucker’s Top Secret is a send up of both Elvis movies and WWII espionage films. It’s a very odd duck which stars Val Kilmer as Nick Rivers, a teen idol who has made a name for himself with a series of songs about surfing and skeet shooting. Nick goes behind the Iron Curtain to East Germany where things haven’t changed much since WWII, especially that it’s Nazis in charge of everything, rather than the communist party. He becomes embroiled in intrigue though Nick Rivers sticks his neck out for nobody until he meets the gorgeous Hillary Flammond (Lucy Gutteridge) and her band of freedom fighters.
Chris Stachiw and Mark Begley join Mike to discuss the film while the episode features interviews with actors Ian McNeice and Christopher Villiers, screenwriter Martyn Burke, and writers/directors Jim Abrahams and David Zucker.

Chris Bricklemyer (Outside the Cinema) and Ryan Luis Rodriguez (The Coolness Chronicles) join Mike to discuss the 1985 film from Martha Coolidge, Real Genius.
Written by Pat Proft and Neal Israel, the film stars Gabe Jarret as Mitch Taylor, a 15 year old who is recruited into a top engineering college by Professor Jerry Hathaway (William Atherton). Hathaway has been secretly contracted by the US military to create a new weapon -- a space laser -- which can vaporize a target from the upper atmosphere. Mitch is paired with the hottest of hot shots at the school, Chris Knight (Val Kilmer) in a real career kick-starter role.
Interviews on this episode include Gabe Jarret, Neal Israel, and the one-and-only Jon Gries.
Special Guest: Shane Black Guest Co-Hosts: Jedidiah Ayres, Andrew Nette
Released in 2005, Shane Black's Kiss Kiss Bang Bang stars Robert Downey Jr. as Harry Lockhart, a two-bit thief who lucks his way into a Hollywood audition which puts him on a very crooked path of playing a detective along with Val Kilmer as Gay Perry. The film pays homage to pulp detectives of old by way of the slick writing style of Black in his directing debut.
On this Special Report we look at David Gregory's documentary Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley's Island of Dr. Moreau about the harrowing behind-the-scenes story of Richard Stanley and the making of 1996's The Island of Dr. Moreau.
