Accessibility

Our goal is a site everyone can use. Last tested October 15, 2026.

Our commitment

The Projection Booth aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA on every page, including the admin tools used to publish the site.

What we do

  • Every page has a skip link, clear headings, and landmarks for screen readers.
  • You can use the whole site, including the audio player and the filters, with a keyboard. Focus is always visible and is never hidden behind the header or the player.
  • Buttons and links are at least 44 by 44 pixels, and text is never smaller than 12 pixels.
  • Text and controls meet the required color contrast, and meaning is never shown by color alone.
  • The layout adapts from a 320-pixel-wide phone to large screens and stays usable at 200% zoom.
  • Nothing plays automatically. Animation is reduced if your device asks for that.
  • Forms have labels and plain-language error messages. Links that open a new tab say so.
  • Fonts are hosted on this site.

How we test

On October 15, 2026 we tested one page of every kind (the home page, episodes, special reports, guest spots, posts, films, people, topics, collections, the archive and search, and each information page) at phone, tablet and desktop widths, and the publishing screens as well.

  • Done: the axe-core 4.9.1 automated checker, which found no serious or critical problems on the final pages; scripted keyboard checks of the skip link, the menu, the filters and the player; calculated color contrast for every color pair in the design; and checks for horizontal scrolling at 320 pixels and at 200% zoom, for text under 12 pixels, and for controls under 44 pixels.
  • Not done yet: testing with a screen reader such as NVDA or VoiceOver, and testing by people who use assistive technology every day. Automated tools find only part of the problems, so please treat this site as "tested by tools, not yet by screen-reader users" until that work is done.

Known limits

  • There are no transcripts yet. Episodes are audio only, so until transcripts exist the site does not fully meet the WCAG requirement for an alternative to audio-only content (success criterion 1.2.1). Show notes describe each episode, and we will add a transcript to an episode when we have one that has been checked; we do not publish machine-made transcripts that have not been reviewed.
  • Older show notes were carried over from our previous blog. Some have images without descriptions or unusual formatting, and we are fixing them as we find them.
  • Embedded players and videos from other companies (such as Spreaker, YouTube and Vimeo) follow their own accessibility practices.
