Based on the novel by Donn Pearce, the film stars Paul Newman as the titular Luke. He’s a former war hero who cuts the heads off of some parking meters and gets tossed onto a chain gang for his crimes. There he joins a host of colorful convicts and sinister bosses mostly played by character actors.
We discuss the film and the book as well as highlighting some of Rosenberg's other directorial efforts.
