Episode 417: Emperor of the North Pole (1973)

Based loosely on the writings of and , Robert Aldrich's Emperor of the North Pole 1973 tells the story of two hobos in the American Northwest during the Great Depression -- A Number One (Lee Marvin) and Cigaret (Keith Carradine). The two have a very uneasy relationship with one another and a completely antagonistic relationship with Shack (Ernest Borgnine), a railwayman who doesn’t want any freeloaders on his train.

Noel Thingvall and Cullen Gallagher join Mike to discuss riding the rails, Robert Aldrich, and much more.

Episode 363: The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)

We travel back to the days of yesteryear with a look at the 1962 film from director John Ford, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. The film stars Jimmy Stewart as Ransom Stoddard, a lawyer who comes out west only to get robbed by the titular Liberty Valance (Lee Marvin). The film also stars John Wayne as Tom Doniphan, a man of action and the living embodiment of "The Old West".

Joseph McBride and Kenneth E. Hall discuss the works of John Ford while Jon Cross and Ben Buckingham join Mike to talk about Liberty Valance and revisionist Westerns.

Film is a battleground this week as Mike and Mondo Justin storm Sam Fuller's masterpiece, The Big Red One. The guys, while smoking Fuller's favorite cigar examine the film, it's original release, and the Richard Schickel Warner Brothers reconstruction project as they discuss the work with the film's star, Robert Carradine.

In addition, the guys sit down to speak with Christa & Samantha Fuller, wife and daughter of the great filmmaker, Samuel Fuller.
