Episode 149: Boys in the Sand (1971)

Special Guest: Wakefield Poole

Wakefield Poole's Boys in the Sand was one of the first adult films to find mainstream success. By itself, this is remarkable, that the "gay porn" film came out a mere 18 months after Stonewall and a year before Deep Throat makes it even more so.

We're joined by Jim Tushinski, the director of I Always Said Yes: The Many Lives of Wakefield Poole to talk Boys in the Sand, Bijou, Bible, and much more.

  1. I didn't expect this site to feature a GAY porn film.

What made you guys at The Projection Booth decide to have an episode on Boys In The Sand?

    1. If you listen to the episode you'll hear why - it's historically important.

Also, we talked about the documentary on Mr. Poole.
